Meet Ross Newman — Turning Agronomy into Opportunity
Founder Ross Newman is recognised across Northern Australia as a practical, forward-thinking agronomist with a deep passion for improving pasture performance, land condition, and business resilience.
Ross holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Agronomy) from the University of Queensland (Gatton) and has built his career across a diversity of grazing landscapes, from the Brigalow Belt to the Basalt country of Central Queensland, the slopes and plains of Northern NSW, the Northern Territory’s extensive grazing lands, Western Australia’s Northern Wheatbelt, and international tropical systems across Vietnam, PNG, the Philippines, China, Paraguay, Argentina, and the USA.
Ross' Story

Deep Central Queensland Roots
A Longstanding Connection to the Region
Ross’s connection to Central Queensland runs far deeper than his professional footprint. His family has been involved in agriculture of various forms in the Rockhampton region since the 1890s, giving him a genuine local identity and understanding of the region’s landscapes, climate, and industry dynamics.
Ross now owns the multi-generational family property, originally used for intensive horticulture. Today, he is transforming it into a living research site — a practical testing ground designed to challenge traditional thinking in pasture management. This property is where Ross trials new species, grazing concepts, forage sequencing, and integration strategies.

Experience
Industry Leadership & Professional Programs
Ross is actively involved in shaping the direction of pasture resilience and advisory capability across Northern Australia. His leadership includes:
Steering Committee Member
Central Queensland & Queensland Pasture Resilience Project
Funded by Meat & Livestock Australia and delivered by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, this project focuses on improving land condition, rebuilding pasture productivity, and future-proofing northern systems. Ross contributes his practical and scientific expertise to guide research and extension priorities.
Participant
Advancing Beef Leaders Program
Strengthening leadership capability across the northern beef industry and supporting Ross’s mission to empower producers and consultants alike.
Participant
MLA Northern Australia Livestock Advisors Essentials Program
A development program focused on advisory excellence, decision frameworks, and evidence-based practice for consultants working in northern beef systems.
These roles reflect Ross’s dedication not only to his clients, but to the ongoing advancement of the grazing industry as a whole.

A Career Built on Seed Science,Pasture Systems & Producer Outcomes
Before launching Pastures To Prosperity, Ross spent eight years in the tropical pasture seed industry, gaining extensive experience in:
Seed Production

Cultivar Development

Seed Quality & Technology

Commercialisation of Leading Pasture Cultivars

Establishment Strategies that translate to Real Paddock Performance

This technical grounding gives Ross a unique understanding of how genetics, soil fertility, climate, and management interact — and how to design systems that perform reliably across variable seasons.
A Passion for Creating Change
Ross’s mission is simple:
When producers understand their pasture system, they gain the power to change it — permanently.
Whether working with a large-scale rangeland property or a small strategic development block, Ross brings the same philosophy — clarity creates capability, and capability creates change.
